Seoul: Where Tomorrow Happens Today

Seoul moves fast.

Everyone walks quickly. Eats quickly. Lives quickly.

Could not keep up.

Gangnam is rich. Skyscrapers. Plastic surgery clinics. Coffee shops on every corner.

Ordered an Americano. The barista asked for name.

"James."

She wrote "제임스" on the cup.

Still have it.

Hongdae is young. University. Street performers. Clubs that do not close.

Went to a noraebang. Karaoke. Private room.

Sang Bon Jovi. Terribly.

Korean friends laughed. Did not judge.

"Again."

Sang again.

Gyeongbokgung Palace is old. Six hundred years.

Changed guards. Traditional robes. Ceremonies unchanged for centuries.

Meat. Fire. Banchan. Soju.

The owner of the restaurant taught how to wrap.

"Lettuce. Meat. Garlic. Sauce. Eat."

Ate.

"Good?"

"Very good."

"Again?"

"Always again."

Left Seoul at night.

The city glowed. Neon. LED. Future.

Spent a week there.

Felt like a decade.

Felt like a moment.

Seoul taught that fast and slow can coexist.

That tradition and innovation are not enemies.

That you can honor the past while racing toward the future.

And that sometimes, the best way to understand a place is to stop trying.
